What happened to Intelledox?

Short answer

Smart Communications bought Intelledox, a Canberra forms company founded in 1992, in a deal announced on 18 July 2019. In June 2020 it launched SmartIQ, which grew out of the Intelledox product and is still sold in 2026. If you run an old Infiniti system, check your release, licensing and integrations at renewal.

Short version: Intelledox lives on under another name. Smart Communications bought the Australian forms company in a deal announced on 18 July 2019, and in June 2020 it launched SmartIQ, which grew out of the Intelledox product.

Intelledox’s Infiniti platform turned paper forms into digital ones and generated documents from the data. If you run an Intelledox or Infiniti system, or inherited one, here’s what happened, what changed and what to check before your next renewal.

What Intelledox looked like when it sold

By 2019 Intelledox was a cloud forms company used for enrollment, activation and sign-ups. It reported 22 million users, with a US headquarters in Dallas and offices in Singapore and Ireland.

Banks, insurers and government agencies used it for things like passport renewals, insurance applications and hospital and university enrolment. Cover Magazine named HSBC, Aon, MassMutual and Deloitte among the combined business’s customers.

The two companies already worked together as partners with shared customers. The founders, Phil Williamson and Michelle Melbourne, met at the Australian National University. They told Region Canberra they hadn’t planned to sell, and that Smart Communications was about ten times their size.

Under the deal, Melbourne was due to join the Smart Communications board, and Intelledox CEO Ray Kiley was to keep leading the Intelledox team.

Why a CCM vendor bought a forms company

SmartCOMM, Smart Communications’ core product, generates outbound documents like policies and statements. Intelledox added the inbound side: collecting the customer’s data through a guided form in the first place.

Aragon Research’s Jim Lundy called Smart Communications one of the first CCM vendors to move into faster-growing workflow and content automation.

From Intelledox Infiniti to SmartIQ

SmartIQ launched in June 2020, available through AWS. It evolved from Intelledox, but it wasn’t billed as a simple rename. Launch coverage gave no mapping between the last Infiniti releases and the first SmartIQ ones.

Infiniti itself, branded that way from 2012, had modules for adaptive design, mobility, analytics, workflow and communications. So treat any Infiniti-era setup, documentation or partner know-how as something to re-check against current SmartIQ.

One feature has a clear family line. Infiniti Accelerate, announced in 2018, used AI to rebuild PDF forms as web and mobile forms. In February 2026, Smart Communications announced AI-Powered Form Migration, which turns PDFs and legacy documents into a first-draft SmartIQ form. See how that stacks up on Smart Communications AI features.

How SmartIQ reviews today

The public review record is still thin, so don’t lean on it too hard.

SmartIQ

Best for checking what Intelledox became

  • 4.4 ★19 Gartner ratings
  • 4.7 ★10 Capterra reviews

Gartner Peer Insights files SmartIQ under application development, not forms or CCM, so it’s hard to compare with rivals there. Figures are from October 2026.

Watch out: Capterra still lists it under the Intelledox name, with reviews from 2012 and 2019.

What to check if you’re an Intelledox-era customer

If your contract or system dates from before SmartIQ, don’t just roll it over at renewal. Ask these in writing.

  1. Release and support. Which SmartIQ release do you run? Is any Infiniti-era version still in use, and until when is it supported?
  2. Licensing. What metric is your renewal priced on, and how does it compare with your Intelledox-era contract? Model three years of volume.
  3. Integrations. List every system your forms read from or write to, and check each connector against the current SmartIQ release.
  4. AI and data. Are the 2026 agent and MCP features in your contract, and how are they governed and logged?
  5. Ownership and roadmap. Cinven has held a majority stake in Smart Communications since a deal announced in August 2025. Ask which roadmap items cover your use case. Background: Smart Communications and Cinven.
  6. Exit. In what format could you export form definitions, submissions and audit history?

Where to look if you’re weighing a switch

Most Intelledox-era customers use SmartIQ for regulated onboarding, applications and claims. The platforms competing for that job are Adobe AEM Forms, Quadient Inspire iForms, EasySend and ISIS Papyrus.
