SmartCOMM pricing: the one public number and what sits behind a real quote

Short answer

There's no SmartCOMM price list. The only public number is Capterra's $35,000 a year, flat rate, for a Basic tier, with no free trial. Real enterprise quotes add volume, seats, environments, add-on products and services, so treat $35,000 as a floor.

Looking for SmartCOMM pricing? There’s no price list. Smart Communications quotes every deal, and G2 and TrustRadius show no price at all.

There is one public number, though: $35,000 a year. Treat it as a floor, not a typical contract. Below is what that figure covers, what actually drives a SmartCOMM bill, and how to make a quote you can compare.

The one public SmartCOMM price

Capterra lists SmartCOMM at $35,000 per year, flat rate, for a Basic tier. Software Advice and GetApp show the same figure because they share Capterra’s listings. Capterra dates the page August 20, 2026.

Two things to keep in mind. Vendors normally supply their own Capterra pricing, so this is the price Smart Communications chooses to show. And an entry tier tells you nothing about volume, users or add-ons, which is where enterprise CCM costs grow.

How CCM vendors license, as far as anyone says

SmartCOMM’s licensing basis isn’t public. One TrustRadius reviewer at a 10,000-plus employee company listed “Price”, “Licensing is bit complicated” and “Frequent upgrades” as cons. Rivals aren’t much more open, but what they do say shows you what to ask.

VendorPublic priceLicensing basis, as published
SmartCOMMFrom $35,000 a year (Capterra, Basic tier)Not published; flat annual rate for the entry tier
Quadient InspireNone“Primarily based on volume and the number of users”, sold in packages (as listed on G2)
Oracle DocumakerNoneSubscription, per-document charge or per-processor licenses (as listed on Celent)
OpenText ExstreamNoneNot published

Quadient isn’t the cheap option either. G2 puts Inspire at the top of its perceived-cost scale, and expense is the drawback its reviewers mention most. See SmartCOMM vs Quadient Inspire, or CCM software pricing for the whole category.

What really drives a SmartCOMM bill

A CCM contract is priced on several units at once. The entry fee is the smallest part. These are the lines that move the total over a multi-year term.

Volume, seats and environments

Volume grows with your business, so model it first. Ask how it’s counted (pages, documents or transactions), whether email and SMS are metered like print, and how overage is billed.

Then count template builders separately from people who only edit approved text. And list every environment you use, from development and test through to production and any separate business-unit tenants.

Other Smart Communications products

Smart now sells SmartIQ (forms), SmartPATH (orchestration) and SmartHUB (archiving) alongside SmartCOMM, bundled in 2026 as a Customer Engagement Platform. Bundles hide per-product prices, so ask for each product as its own line. Ask how SmartIQ is metered too. See SmartIQ alternatives.

Services, migration and AI

Implementation, template conversion and training are often priced outside the subscription. Ask what onboarding is included and the day rate beyond it.

On AI, Smart said in February 2026 that more than 80% of customers could use its new assistants in their current setup. Confirm you’re one of them, and that it stays that way at renewal.

Check your quote for missing lines

A quote is only comparable when every line is stated. Tick what yours already covers in writing, and the rest becomes a question list for your account team.

Is your SmartCOMM quote complete?

Tick each line your quote already covers in writing. The rest become questions you can paste into an email.

  • Volume unit and tierThe line that grows fastest over a term.Ask: Which unit is volume measured in (pages, documents or transactions), what volume does this price include, and what is the price per additional block?
  • Channel meteringDigital output can be metered differently from print.Ask: Are email, SMS and HTML outputs counted in the same volume as print and PDF, or metered separately?
  • Overage and carry-overOverage rates are often higher than the contracted rate.Ask: How is volume above the contracted tier billed, and does unused volume carry over to the next year?
  • Authoring and editing seatsTemplate builders and business editors may be priced differently.Ask: How many authoring seats are included, what does each extra seat cost, and do business users who only edit approved content need a full seat?
  • Environments and tenantsExtra environments are a common add-on.Ask: How many environments and tenants are included, and what does each additional one cost?
  • ConnectorsCore-system integrations can carry their own fees.Ask: Which connectors are included in this price, and which carry an extra fee?

  • AI featuresInclusion can change at renewal.Ask: Which AI features are included in this contract, and will any become chargeable during the term or at renewal?

Build your estimate before the first sales call

You need five numbers from your own operation. Send the same five to every vendor so the quotes line up.

  1. Annual output by channel: print, PDF, email and SMS, plus expected growth.
  2. People: template builders and business editors, counted separately.
  3. Environments and tenants: every one your release and testing process needs.
  4. Products in scope: forms, orchestration or archiving, now or during the term.
  5. Templates to migrate: active templates and how many are near-duplicates, since services effort follows template count.

That fifth number also tells you what leaving would cost. Pricing a move rather than a purchase? See migrating off SmartCOMM.

Using these numbers at renewal

Renewal is your best moment, because per-unit prices and terms are open again. The SmartCOMM contract renewal checklist turns all this into a timed plan.

If the total doesn’t work, compare the platforms in SmartCOMM alternatives, read the SmartCOMM review, check the CCM benchmark, and see the full market in the CCM software guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SmartCOMM cost?

Capterra lists SmartCOMM from $35,000 a year, flat rate, for a Basic tier. Enterprise contracts add volume, users, environments, other Smart products and services, so expect a full quote to be higher. Ask for every cost line priced separately.

Does SmartCOMM offer a free trial?

No. Capterra lists no free trial or free version. Ask for a proof of concept built on three of your most complex templates with real data instead.

Is SmartCOMM cheaper than Quadient Inspire?

Nobody can say from public data, because neither vendor publishes prices. G2 puts Quadient Inspire at the top of its perceived-cost scale, so get quotes from both on the same volumes, users and environments.

Are SmartCOMM's AI features included in the license?

Smart Communications said in February 2026 that more than 80% of customers could access its AI assistants in their current setup. It didn't say whether any cost extra, so get your account team to confirm in writing.
