Adobe AEM Forms review: forms-first communications on the Adobe stack
Adobe AEM Forms is a strong pick when your communications start with a form, like applications, onboarding or claims, especially if you already use Adobe. Users rate it 4.3 from 115 Gartner reviews (October 2026). It's a weaker fit for high-volume statements and notices.
Here’s our Adobe AEM Forms review in one line: it’s a strong pick when your customer communications start with a form, like an application, onboarding, a claim or an enrollment. It’s an even better fit if you already run Adobe Experience Manager for your websites.
If your main job is printing statements and notices at volume, it’s narrower than the specialist suites. (Looking for AEM’s built-in review workflow for developers? That’s a different topic.)

What users say
AEM Forms has the third-biggest Gartner sample in CCM, after UniServe NXT and Quadient Inspire. Its 4.3 looks modest, but the chart shows why: lots of four-star ratings, almost no critics.

In short, users are happy with it, just not thrilled. That’s common for a product bought as part of a bigger platform.
- What they like: one retail engineer calls it “very versatile and easy to use” and great for document layouts. A PeerSpot reviewer praises its flexibility and full feature set.
- What they don’t: the same retail engineer says it’s “a bit complex to set up” and needs maintenance now and then.
- Keep in mind: some ratings come from teams using it for simple surveys, not regulated letters.

The AI agents Adobe added in 2026
Adobe’s April 2026 update is all about building forms and the messages that follow. IT Brief reported three additions:
- Brand Experience Agent builds or updates forms from a brief, an image or an existing form, and drafts follow-ups like application summaries.
- Development Agent walks your tech team through data connections, workflows and custom components.
- Agentic form filling lets customers complete a form by typing or chatting, and helps AI agents find your forms.
Those follow-up messages run through Adobe Journey Optimizer and Adobe Experience Platform, so you get the most value if you already license them. The report didn’t say what’s generally available, so ask Adobe.
Five questions to ask Adobe
Much of the detail on AEM Forms as a statement and notice engine is only published by Adobe. Put these in your RFP:
- Volume: what batch throughput has Adobe shown for statements and notices at your scale?
- Letters: which tools do your agents use to edit regulated letters, and are they live on the cloud service?
- Deployment: cloud service or installed software, and how long is your version supported?
- Archive: where are sent documents stored, and is that a separate product?
- Licensing: which Adobe products does your use case need (Forms, Journey Optimizer, Experience Platform, Acrobat Sign), and what does each cost?
Our cloud CCM guide covers the deployment trade-offs. Public-sector buyers can compare options in CCM software for government.
Is AEM Forms right for you?
Great for forms-led journeys on Adobe. Weaker when batch statements and regulated notices are the main job.
Choose it if
- Your communications start with applications, onboarding, claims or enrollment.
- You already run AEM Sites or other Adobe Experience Cloud products.
- You want AI help building forms and follow-ups inside Adobe.
Look elsewhere if
- High-volume statements, policies and notices are the main job. Try the OpenText Exstream review or the Quadient Inspire review.
- You want a vendor with published analyst Leader placements.
- You don’t use Adobe anywhere else and would be buying it just for forms.
AEM Forms vs SmartCOMM and SmartIQ
AEM Forms competes most directly with SmartIQ, Smart Communications’ forms product. Read SmartIQ vs Adobe AEM Forms and our SmartIQ alternatives guide.
Against SmartCOMM, it’s a split decision. SmartCOMM scores higher on Gartner (4.7 from 69), but AEM’s gap comes from four-star ratings, not unhappy users. On PeerSpot, AEM Forms held its share of reader attention over the past year while SmartCOMM’s roughly halved.
Forms-led and on Adobe? AEM Forms is the better fit. Sending template-heavy letters at volume? Our SmartCOMM alternatives guide covers the suites built for that, and the CCM software guide maps the whole category.

Frequently asked questions
Is AEM Forms a CCM platform?
Partly. Gartner lists it in the CCM market and QKS evaluated Adobe for its 2026 CCM matrix, but its core is forms and data capture. Test it on your statements and notices before treating it as a full CCM replacement.
What AI features did Adobe add to AEM Forms in 2026?
In April 2026 Adobe added a Brand Experience Agent that builds forms and drafts follow-up messages, a Development Agent for data connections and workflows, and agentic form filling. Ask Adobe which of these are generally available.
Why does AEM Forms have no G2 or Capterra rating of its own?
G2 and Capterra rate the whole Adobe Experience Manager suite, mixing website reviews with forms reviews. Gartner Peer Insights rates AEM Forms on its own, so it's the more useful source.
Is AEM Forms available on-premises?
Ask Adobe directly. Get in writing whether a proposal covers the cloud service or installed software, how long that version is supported, and what a later move to the cloud would involve.
