Pendula alternatives: options for existing customers after the acquisition
Smart Communications bought Pendula in August 2025, and its SmartPATH product builds on Pendula’s orchestration. If your journeys involve regulated documents or print, compare Precisely EngageOne RapidCX, Quadient Inspire Journey and Messagepoint Conductor. If you mostly send retention and marketing messages, look at engagement platforms like Braze or MoEngage.
Pendula customer wondering what’s next? Smart Communications bought Pendula in August 2025, and a month later launched SmartPATH on top of Pendula’s orchestration. If you’re weighing Pendula alternatives, the right one depends on what you actually use it for.
Pendula runs two-way messaging journeys: payment reminders, onboarding nudges and service follow-ups over SMS, email and messaging apps. Here’s what changed, what to ask before renewal, and what to compare.
Pick by what you use Pendula for
- Chasing payments, claims or renewals, with a letter or regulated document somewhere in the flow? Compare CCM orchestration tools like Precisely EngageOne RapidCX.
- Mostly retention, onboarding or promotional SMS? Look at engagement platforms like Braze or MoEngage.
What changed after the acquisition
Pendula went from a standalone engagement vendor to one product inside a company that sells customer communications management (CCM) to insurers, banks and healthcare organizations.

Aragon Research saw the deal as Smart Communications moving from one-way document generation toward two-way customer journeys. In practice, your supplier’s priorities now sit inside a product line built for regulated enterprises. If you use Pendula for retail or marketing journeys, ask whether those stay on the roadmap.
Today Pendula holds 4.5 from 25 reviews on G2, where reviewers report about 2 months to implement and 4 months to see a return. As listed on G2, it covers SMS, email, social messaging, fax and RCS, and integrates with over 80 systems, including Salesforce and Zuora. SmartPATH, its successor, has a single rating on Gartner Peer Insights.
Questions to ask about your Pendula contract
Even if the service works well, an acquisition is a good time to check your terms. Get answers in writing. Our guide to contract renewal with Smart Communications covers notice periods and negotiation.
- Platform: am I on Pendula’s original platform or SmartPATH? If a move is planned, when, and who pays?
- Product future: will Pendula keep being sold separately, and how long is my version supported?
- Features: which Pendula features I use today exist in SmartPATH, and which don’t?
- Pricing: will my renewal be on Pendula or SmartPATH terms, and what does that mean at my volumes?
- Exit: how do I export journeys, contact history, consent records and message logs?
- Bundling: if SmartCOMM, SmartIQ or SmartHUB come bundled in, get each priced separately.

The best Pendula alternatives
The first three are CCM platforms that link messaging to document generation and keep a record of what each customer received. The last card covers engagement tools.
Best for multi-channel servicing that still includes print
The closest documented match. It’s a fully managed cloud platform covering in-app, email, SMS, print, portals and contact centers. In April 2026 Precisely added a Communication Tracker and a Next Best Action Agent.
Watch out: it’s a family of modules, so confirm what each quote includes.
Best for teams that also want Quadient for document composition
Quadient introduced Inspire Journey in May 2021 for SaaS journey mapping and orchestration. It makes most sense if you’re also moving document composition to Quadient Inspire, so one vendor covers both the messages and the documents they trigger.
Best for high-volume operations where print still dominates
Conductor handles orchestration and tracking for high-volume print and digital. Messagepoint announced it’s coming to its customers after buying Sefas in March 2026.
Braze, MoEngage, Klaviyo or Podium
Best for retention, onboarding and promotional messaging
- 4.4 ★Braze, 1,962 G2 reviews
- 4.5 ★MoEngage, 532 G2 reviews
- 4.6 ★Klaviyo, 1,368 G2 reviews
- 4.5 ★Podium, 2,155 G2 reviews
G2 lists all four as Pendula alternatives, and they’re a sensible start if you don’t need regulated documents or print. They’re built for marketing and retention at scale. They’re a weaker fit when a journey has to trigger a regulated document, fall back to a printed letter or keep an audit record of each customer’s messages.
Watch out: check two-way reply handling, consent and quiet-hours rules, and any regional messaging rules you rely on.
