Smart Communications AI features: what was announced, and how rivals compare
Smart Communications launched most of its AI on 4 February 2026: writing, design and knowledge assistants for authors, plus agent tools and MCP servers in SmartIQ. In October 2026 it added AI-assisted template migration. If AI drives your shortlist, look at Precisely for compliance checks, Messagepoint for template clean-up and Quadient for authoring help.
Smart Communications AI features mostly arrived in one go, on 4 February 2026, across SmartCOMM, SmartIQ, SmartHUB and SmartPATH. A second announcement on 8 October 2026 added AI-assisted migration.
Every CCM vendor now says it has AI. So the useful questions are simple: what does each feature do, when was it announced, and what can you check before you sign? This page answers all three, then shows how rivals compare.
Quick heads-up: SmartComm.ai, a CRM sold to businesses in Bangladesh, is a different product and isn’t covered here.
What Smart Communications announced in February 2026
Eight capabilities, grouped by who uses them. Smart Communications says more than 80% of its customers can access them in their current setup, but not which features that covers.
| Capability | Product | What Smart Communications says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Writing Assistant | SmartCOMM | Adjusts tone, translates in real time, keeps an audit trail of AI-assisted changes |
| Design Assistant | SmartCOMM | Helps build templates and improve readability with prebuilt prompts; runs through Amazon Bedrock |
| Knowledge Assistant | SmartCOMM and SmartIQ | In-app help in plain language |
| Agent Infrastructure | SmartIQ | Lets AI agents collect data in a controlled way on any channel |
| MCP servers | SmartIQ | Connect generative AI apps to enterprise software for applications, onboarding and self-service |
| AI-Powered Form Migration | SmartIQ | Turns PDFs and legacy documents into a “best first draft” digital form |
| Retrieval-optimized archiving | SmartHUB | Handles AI-driven document requests; no more detail given |
| AI-assisted orchestration | SmartPATH | Aims to improve delivery and completion and fix data errors; no more detail given |
Two things to notice. The SmartHUB and SmartPATH entries get one sentence each, so there’s little to test. And Form Migration moves forms into SmartIQ. It doesn’t convert SmartCOMM templates.
The October 2026 migration offer
On 8 October 2026, Smart Communications announced a three-step migration offer. AI scans your existing library for duplicates and builds a prioritized “Migration Blueprint”. An AI engine then converts legacy documents into reusable templates, and you and Smart’s team review every conversion.
The release names no source platforms and gives no accuracy, time or cost figures. If migration is your main worry, compare it with the CCM migration tools other vendors offer.
SmartPATH’s AI since 2025
SmartPATH launched in September 2025 with configurable AI agents that, Smart Communications said, track customer behavior and sentiment and adjust interactions in real time. For other orchestration options, see SmartPATH alternatives.
How Smart Communications AI compares with rivals
Most CCM vendors announced AI between 2023 and 2026, but for different jobs. Some help authors write. Some check compliance. Some let agents act. Here’s who announced what, and when.
Each cell shows the month a vendor announced it and what they said it does. An announcement isn’t proof it’s live. As of October 15, 2026.

Dates are announcement months or the earliest independent coverage. For Quadient InspireXpress and Messagepoint Rationalizer, the date is when the AI description appeared, not when the tool first shipped. An empty cell means we found no announcement, not that the feature is missing.
The short version: Precisely has announced the most for compliance teams, with agents that flag risk and personal data before anything goes out. Smart Communications and Adobe have aimed their agents at data capture. Quadient and OpenText got AI to authors first, in May 2025 and 2023.
Pick by the job you want AI to do
If AI is part of why you’re reviewing SmartCOMM, start from the job. Then shortlist the vendor whose announcements match it.
Best for compliance review before anything is sent
- 4.1 ★12 Gartner reviews
- Sep 2026risk scoring and PII agents
Precisely’s newest agents score compliance risk and mask personal data against rules your team sets, with an audit trail. Its earlier agents work on an approve-or-reject basis, so a person stays in charge.
Watch out: the review base is small, so ask for references.
Best for AI that cleans up a big template library
- Jun 2026MARCIEAssist launch
Messagepoint says its Rationalizer uses AI to find what can be merged in legacy content and move it over. MARCIEAssist, announced in June 2026, is an agent for content operations with rollback. Handy if hundreds of overlapping templates are your biggest cost.
Best for AI for authors in a mature platform
- 4.8 ★130 Gartner reviews
- May 2025R17 AI release
R17 brought authoring help, translation, sentiment analysis and personal data detection. July 2026 coverage says you can use your own trusted AI models, and that InspireXpress uses AI to convert existing CCM templates.
Best for agent-led forms and data capture
- Apr 2026agent tools launch
Adobe’s agents build forms from prompts, help developers connect data and let assistants fill forms in conversation. It’s the closest match to SmartIQ Agent Infrastructure. See all SmartIQ alternatives.
Best for very high volumes with generative content on top
- 2023Experience Aviator
Futurum described Experience Aviator in 2023 as generative AI inside Exstream for personalized content. For most SmartCOMM customers, though, the real draw is batch scale.

Questions to ask before you trust any CCM AI feature
AI looks easy to compare on paper and hard to compare in production. Before a feature touches a customer letter, you need answers on availability, data, cost and audit. Tick what applies and copy it into your CCM RFP template.
Each line becomes a numbered RFP requirement. Use them at your SmartCOMM renewal and with every alternative you shortlist.
